Asian shares mixed with all eyes on the European Central Bank

Investing.com - Asian sahres were mixed on Thursday as investors took a wait-and-see approach before the European Central Bank makes its expected announcement on policy later in the global trading day.

Japan's Nikkei 225 rose 0.05%, while China's Shanghai Composite was down 0.4%, the Hang Seng index edged 0.21% lower and South Korea's benchmark KOSPI was 0.7% stronger.

The Nikkei is currently on its hottest buying streak of the year, rising in 10 of the last 11 sessions and gaining over 7.3% in the process.

HSBC China May Services PMI data, published during the Asia morning trading session, came in at 50.7, somewhat lower than April's 51.4, but did not appear to have a meaningful impact on markets.

At the close of U.S. trade on Wednesday, the Dow 30 rose 0.09%, the S&P 500 index gained 0.19%, while the NASDAQ Composite index climbed 0.36%.
