ASIA ECONOMICS: Asian Shares End Mixed on Trade Deal Hopes

Stock markets across the Asia-Pacific region closed mixed on Monday as U.S.-China trade concerns eased after U.S. Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin said on Saturday he hoped that the two sides were "close to the final round" of negotiations, Trading Economics reported. Sentiment was also supported by stronger-than-expected Chinese export and bank loan data released last week. The Shanghai Composite reversed early gains and lost 0.3% to 3,178; the Hang Seng fell 0.3% to 29,811; and the S&P/ASX 200 finished near the flat line at 6,251; while the Nikkei 225 jumped 1.4% to 22,169; and the Kospi added 0.4% to 2,243.
