Ashland Concludes Acquisition of Zeta Fraction Technology

Ashland Inc .'s ASH unit - Ashland Specialty Ingredients - announced that it has completed the purchase of the patented Zeta Fraction technology from AkzoNobel. This acquisition further strengthens Ashland's portfolio in the personal care, pharmaceutical, food and beverage, and agriculture markets.

The Zeta Fraction technology produces a broad range of biofunctional ingredients using effective components from living plants and marine sources. Moreover, the technology carefully separates the cellular fractions, maintaining the natural value of the plant cell juice unlike traditional plant extraction technologies which separate botanical extracts from dried plants and uses external solvents. In fact, the conventional method reduces shelf life stability and reproducibility of botanical extracts.

According to James Mish, vice president, Consumer Specialties, Ashland Specialty Ingredients, Ashland is providing enterprise solutions to finished product makers to meet the global demand for more sophisticated personal care products. Moreover, its Vincience technology has endowed Ashland with the expertise for the production of biofunctional ingredients and skill in bioavailability.

Ashland has successfully integrated expert technology, applications development, formulations and consumer science into a single platform, and organized these to produce solutions for large-scale adoption and implementation. Hence, Ashland remains focused on working with innovative producers of consumer care products as well as pharmaceutical, nutrition, and agricultural markets at the initial stages of product development. As part of its goal, the company also delivers bioavailability solutions that lead to improved market opportunities for customers.

The company had made a presentation on the future of products based on better ingredient delivery in skin, scalp, hair, and oral-care applications during the in-cosmetics show held in Barcelona, Spain, earlier this year. Also, Ashland's Vincience research center in France had launched Elixiance biofunctional - a new ecological and sustainable ingredient for skin care products to help minimize the effects of pollution on the skin. Combined with recent developments, the Zeta Fraction technology will position Ashland for further growth in the natural-based specialty ingredients market.

Ashland currently carries a Zacks Rank #3 (Hold).
