Air Products Displays SmartFuel at a Dedication Ceremony

Air Products & Chemicals Inc.APD showcased its SmartFuel hydrogen fueling dispenser at a dedication ceremony held by the Energy Department's National Renewable Energy Laboratory ("NREL"). NREL will use Air Products' SmartFuel technology for its new hydrogen fueling station in Golden, CO.

The 700 bar (10,000 psi) hydrogen fueling station incorporating Air Products' SmartFuel hydrogen fueling dispenser was dedicated for the first National Hydrogen and Fuel Cell Day in the U.S.

According to Ed Kiczek, global business director - Hydrogen Energy Systems at Air Products, the company is striving hard to create new technologies as the world shifts toward clean sustainable energy sources. Kiczek also encouraged the efforts of the U.S. Senate to declare Oct 9 as National Hydrogen Fuel Cell Day with Resolution 217 passed on Sep 29. The Fuel Cell & Hydrogen Energy Association has also taken cognizance of this effort.

The SmartFuel stations globally provide hydrogen fueling at 700 bar (10,000 psi) and make use of a technology that is referred to in the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE) J2601 hydrogen fueling protocol. The company also offers several SmartFuel station concepts with modular and expandable technology with a global patent portfolio. Moreover, this technology, which is cost-effective and easy to set up anywhere in the U.S., spearheads the setting up of early markets for hydrogen fueling infrastructure.

Air Products, a global leader in hydrogen fueling technology, supplies hydrogen to refineries and carries a vast experience in this field. The company's hydrogen fueling technology is already prevalently used across the industry and conducts around 1,000,000 hydrogen fills per year. Air Products is involved in more than 200 hydrogen fueling projects in the U.S. and 20 countries globally.
