Agribusiness & U.S. Mid-Cap: Two ETFs Trading with Outsized Volume

In the last trading session, U.S. stocks were mixed as the market got cues from contradicting forces like an improving U.S., the terror attacks in Paris and its impact on several asset classes. Though the broader market digested the negative impact of the attack in a short span, it might need a few more sessions to soar again.

Among the top ETFs, investors saw SPY lose 0.07%, DIA add 0.08% and QQQ move higher by 0.06% on the day.

Two more specialized ETFs are worth noting in particular though as both saw trading volume that was far outside of normal. In fact, both these funds experienced volume levels that were more than double their average for the most recent trading session. This could make these ETFs ones to watch out for in the days ahead to see if this trend of extra interest continues:

MOO : Volume 3.53 times average

This global agribusiness ETF was under the microscope yesterday as nearly 926,000 shares moved hands. This compares to an average trading volume of 262,400 shares and came as MOO gained about 0.5% in the session.

The movement can largely be attributed to the surge in the fund's top holding Syngenta's prices (up 9.24%). Notably, Syngent which takes about 9.5% share in the fund, is being considered fit for acquisition by the world's largest seed company Monsanto. In the last one-month period, MOO was down about 0.5%.

VOE : Volume 3.27 times average

This U.S. mid-cap ETF was in focus yesterday as roughly 845,660 shares moved hands compared to an average of roughly 258,240 shares. We also saw some stock price movement as shares of VOE lost about 0.2% yesterday.

The enthusiasm poured in small-cap investing to stay away from global shocks and to focus on the domestic economy which might have dampened investors' mood over this larger capitalization ETF. In the last one-month period, VOE was down about 0.7%.
