Aetna Boosts 2011, 2012 Forecasts; Q4 Tracking Better than Expected (AET)

Health insurance provider Aetna Inc. ( AET ) late Wednesday raised its 2011 and 2012 earnings forecast, citing better-than-expected results in the current fourth quarter.

The Hartford, CT-based company said it now expects full-year 2011 earnings of $5.15 per share, up from a prior estimate of $5 per share. On average, Wall Street analysts expect a smaller profit of $5.02 per share for the year.

For the full year 2012, Aetna raised its guidance to about $5 per share, compared with a previous forecast of $4.80 per share. Analysts are looking for 2012 earnings of $4.96 per share.

Aetna shares posted modest gains in premarket trading Thursday.
