ADP draws focus to job data this week

Attention focuses on the labor market today as a string of key employment data begins.

ADP will release its index of private-sector payrolls at 8:15 a.m. ET. Economists expect an addition of 197,000 jobs versus 198,000 in February. The report will likely be viewed as a major indicator on the government's non-farm payrolls report Friday morning, so it could sway sentiment toward the broader market.

The Institute for Supply Management follows with its index of non-manufacturing activity at 10 a.m. ET. Economists expect the gauge to slip to 55.5 versus 56 in February. Readings above 50 mean that expansion is occurring.

Crude-oil inventories will be reported at 10:30 a.m. ET, which could affect trading in energy companies.

Food maker ConAgra and agribusiness giant Monsanto will also issue quarterly reports before the opening bell.
