Adobe Systems IncorporatedADBE introduced significant features and a number of new updates for its Document Cloud (DC). Along with this, it also announced a partnership with Dropbox Inc.

The integration of Dropbox into DC is aimed to make it easier for people and organizations to work with files on the go.

What is Dropbox?

Dropbox is a file backup service that offers cloud-based file management, storage systems and client software. It enables users to access and synchronize files and use applications through multiple devices. Users can create a special folder on their computers, which can be synchronized for viewing on any computer. Files placed in this folder are also accessible through websites and mobile phone applications.

The Alliance

With more than 18 billion PDF files stored in Dropbox, the alliance will enable Adobe Acrobat DC and Adobe Acrobat Reader users to easily access and work on files stored on Dropbox Basic, Pro and Business accounts from within the Adobe apps. Users can open, edit, share and save changes to PDF files in the Adobe apps from the Dropbox website, Apple's AAPL iOS or Google's GOOGL Android app.

This integration also boosts teamwork as it allows collaborative editing of PDF files stored on Dropbox or use of Acrobat DC to access the complete set of file management tools. Users can then share a new or revised document directly from Dropbox.

It also allows syncing of documents, that is, it makes sure that the PDF files, and the changes made to them in Adobe apps, are always saved in Dropbox, regardless of where the user makes the changes.

The integration of Dropbox account with Acrobat DC or Acrobat Reader is now available to desktop users worldwide. The iOS integrations will be rolled out in the coming months and Android and web integrations will follow in 2016.

Conclusion

Keeping in mind the ever evolving needs of customers wanting to transact business on-the-go, the alliance appears to be a sensible move by Adobe. Also, a number of businesses use Dropbox as their de facto document storage service. Therefore, Adobe intends to capitalize on the fact that many businesses are already using Dropbox. This also makes more sense than attempting to convince its Document Cloud users to adopt yet another storage service just to store PDF files.
