Adobe (ADBE) Launches Document Cloud to Manage Files - Analyst Blog

As most of the forms of content including books, movies, music successfully shift to digital, why should documents and their creation and management be left behind?

Adobe Systems Inc.ADBE recently launched Document Cloud, a new subscription package to enable users to bring documents and their signing into the cloud. With Adobe Document Cloud, users can now do away with physical documents and move into the paperless space.

Vital Features of Document Cloud

The Document Cloud includes a redesigned Acrobat DC, e-Sign Services (previously Adobe EchoSign) included with every subscription of Acrobat DC, which offers a New Fill & Sign feature making signing anything fast and easy, including smart autofill across devices.

DC also comes with a Mobile Link allowing users to pick up the document where they left their files. It basically allows them to access files, settings and signatures as they move between desktop and devices. It also offers two new mobile apps, Acrobat Mobile and Fill & Sign, to help users manage, create edit and sign documents directly on their mobile devices. In addition, they can use the camera on their devices as a portable scanner to convert any paper documents to digital, editable files that can be shared for signature easily.

It also offers services such as Send & Track to help in document management & control. It has intelligent tracking service to enable users to access their documents and also get to know who has opened and viewed them and when.

Benefits of Document Cloud

The new service consists of a set of integrated services that utilize a reliable online profile and personal document hub thus making it easier for consumers and businesses to create handle, share, edit, sign, trace and work with digital documents whether they are on their PCs or on mobile devices.

It will also enable them to store documents in the Adobe created and broadly used PDF format in Document Cloud. The e-Sign feature will speed up approvals and processing of information, whether personal or professional.

Like other cloud-based services, users will be able to access and review the documents stored on Document Cloud. Document Cloud will also work with related formats, such as the Office suite of Microsoft Corp. MSFT .

Price and Availability

Adobe DC and Acrobat DC are expected to be available within the next month in the United States, United Kingdom and Australia. Prices are expected to start at about $13 a month. Users will be able to purchase Acrobat DC for a one-time fee, which is expected to start at $299 ($139 for upgrades) but it excludes online storage and some of the mobile features.

Users of Adobe Creative Cloud will have access to DC through Acrobat ADC, which will be included with a subscription to Creative Cloud.

Our Take

The latest launch puts Adobe in competition with the other tech giants like Google GOOGL , Box, Inc. BOX , Dropbox and Microsoft who are growing their capabilities to bring documents to the cloud and gain market share by delivering appropriate cloud-based solutions to the right people at the right time.

But with the kind of features it is offering, Adobe could outshine other contenders. Document Cloud supplements its other cloud-based solutions that should help it drive penetration within its current user base and also help it to reach a wider audience, especially in a world where consumers demand personalized content on all of their devices.

The software company already offers two other Internet-based services on the cloud, the Adobe Marketing Cloud for managing analytics, campaigns and other insights, and Adobe Creative Cloud including Photoshop, InDesign and other tools.

Attractive pricing, as well as frequent product, feature and service enhancements continue to drive Adobe's Creative Cloud subscription growth. Also, the increased adoption of the company's marketing cloud could serve as a potential catalyst aided by Adobe's acquisition of Fotolia. We expect noteworthy synergies over time, which would ultimately boost revenues. The company's growth strategies and solid execution are other positives.

Adobe shares carry a Zacks Rank #3 (Hold).
