While Mother's Day doesn't rank as high as spending holidays like Christmas or Black Friday for retailers, that doesn't mean that businesses won't capitalize on children's efforts to show their momma some love this weekend.

Yes, while the first Sunday in May is all about family, its is also kind of about making money for companies that offer popular gifts.

Here are five stocks that should see some love on Mother's Day.

No list of retailers for any holiday is ever complete without e-commerce giant Amazon.com, Inc. ( AMZN ).

The online superstore is a favorite among forgetful children, as it offers next-day delivery on a huge range of gift items. Amazon has already set up a handy gift-finder to help kids find the perfect item for their mom and is offering discounts on selected items like perfume and jewelry.

This year, Amazon even boasts a "handmade" category, in which customers can find anything from custom clothing to pet portraits. Launched in October last year , Handmade has more than 5,000 sellers hawking some 80,000 artisanal items.

Craft marketplace Etsy Inc ( ETSY ) is also a big winner on Mother's Day.

Handmade goods are a standard gift for mom, but for grownup children who aren't into arts and crafts, sites like Etsy are a lifesaver.

Over the past six months, ETSY stock has lost more than 10% as investors worried about competition from Amazon's Handmade, but Etsy still offers the widest range of handmade goods on the internet.

That's in large part due to Etsy's 3.5% transaction fee versus Amazon's 12 percent charge, something that has kept many smaller crafters from jumping ship.

Enter 1-800-Flowers.com, Inc ( FLWS ).

Holidays like Mother's Day are the bread and butter of companies like 1-800-Flowers, as their business depends heavily on marketing promotions. The florist and specialty foods delivery service has seen impressive growth over the past year, adding 821,000 new customers and fending off competition from Amazon.

While there is some threat posed by Amazon's entry into floral and gift basket market, 1-800-Flowers has been able to set itself apart by offering more personalization and a wider range of goods.

Making sure that mom doesn't have to do the cooking or the washing up by taking her to a nice meal is another popular option on Mother's Day.

In recent years, consumer preferences have shifted, making the casual dining space turbulent. However, Brinker International, Inc. ( EAT ), the parent company of Chili's Grill & Bar and Maggiano's Little Italy has come through these changes relatively unscathed.

The company has been vigilant in focusing on efficiency and improving the customer experience and as a result restaurants like Maggiano's have continued to grow in popularity.

If there's one thing that every sleep-deprived mom loves, it's coffee.

While children may be blissfully unaware of the lack of sleep their mom is getting, dads certainly are not - and that's why Starbucks Corporation ( SBUX ) makes the cut as a Mother's Day pick. Starbucks gift cards are go-to gift items for any holiday, but they make for the perfect present from a partner who knows what mom needs to get her through the day.

Gift cards aren't the only way Starbucks will capitalize on Mother's Day love - the company's partnership with local bakeries in select locations makes it a good breakfast destination as well. While Mother's Day breakfasts are typically hand-made by toddlers, some families may opt to take mom out instead and avoid all that clean-up.

As of this writing, Laura Hoy did not hold a position in any of the aforementioned securities.
