Hartford Funds, a segment of The Hartford Financial Services Group, Inc. (HIG), has total assets of around $121.1 billion under management (as of Sep 30, 2018). The company claims to manage at least 50 mutual funds across a wide range of styles and asset classes. Hartford Financial Services was founded in 1810 and is a well-recognized insurance company in the United States.

Hartford Funds focuses on meeting and even exceeding "traditional industry benchmarks" through "human-centric investing." The company believes that human-centric investing can help in creating solutions, products and advisor tools, which help in strengthening the bottom line and improving advisor-client relationships.

Hartford Small Company HLSHDMBX invests in common stocks of companies that have strong capital growth potential. HDMBX's sub-adviser, Wellington Management Company, LLP, invests a huge chunk of its assets in common stocks of companies that fall within the range of both the S&P SmallCap 600 and Russell 2000 indices. The fund may also invest around one-fifth of its assets in foreign companies. Hartford Small Company HLS has three-year annualized returns of 7.01%.

As of January 2019, HDMBX held 112 issues, with 2.42% of its assets invested in Insulet Corp.

Hartford Stock HLS IAHSTAX invests in equity securities of companies irrespective of their market capitalization. However, it invests a significant portion of its assets in securities of large-cap companies whose market-cap is similar to those listed on the Russell 1000 Index. HSTAX may also invest a maximum of 20% of its assets in securities of non-U.S. companies. Hartford Stock HLS IA has three-year annualized returns of 8.73%.

HSTAX has an expense ratio of 0.52% as compared to the category average of 0.95%.

Hartford Stock HLS IB HIBSX seeks capital appreciation over the long run. Though HIBSX invests in equity securities of companies irrespective of their market capitalization, it invests a significant portion of its assets in securities of companies with market capitalization similar to those listed on the Russell 1000 Index. The fund may also invest a maximum of 20% of its assets in securities of foreign companies. Hartford Stock HLS IB has three-year annualized returns of 8.46%.

Donald J. Kilbride is the fund manager of HIBSX since 2012.

Hartford Core Equity R4 HGISX seeks capital growth. HGISX invests a huge portion of its assets in common stocks. The fund maintains a diverse portfolio by investing in different companies and industries, with the fund adviser focusing on investing in large-cap companies that have market-cap similar to those included on the S&P 500 index. Hartford Core Equity R4 has three-year annualized returns of 7.95%.

HGISX has an expense ratio of 0.76% compared with the category average of 0.95%.
