Principal Financial Group manages assets worth over $629.4 billion (as of June 30, 2017) based on assets raised in the country or region. This renowned publicly owned global investment management firm aims to meet requirements of both individual and institutional investors with their asset management services, insurance and retirement solutions. The company offers investment management strategies and services in 18 countries. It invests in equities, multi-assets, fixed income real estates and alternative markets. Principal Financial Group was founded in 1879 and is headquartered in Des Moines, Iowa.

Principal MidCap S&P 400 Index J PMFJX invests the lion's share of its assets in equities of mid-cap companies, which are included in the S&P MidCap 400 Index. In this index, the market-cap of companies ranges between $952.0 million and $10.5 billion. PMFJX seeks growth of capital in the long run. Principal MidCap S&P 400 Index J returned 16.2% over the last one-year period.

Principal SmallCap S&P 600 Index JPSSJX invests a large part of its assets in equity securities of companies from the S&P SmallCap 600 Index. According to the index, small-cap companies are those whose market-cap ranges between $51.6 million and $4.5 billion. Principal SmallCap S&P 600 Index J has returned 18.6% in a year's time.

PSSJX has an expense ratio of 0.47% compared with the category average of 1.18%.

Principal Short-Term Income J PSJIX seeks growth of income and stability of principal. PSJIX invests mainly in fixed-income debt securities, including high quality short-term bonds, which are rated Baa3 or higher by Moody's or BBB- or higher by S&P's Rating Service. Principal Short-Term Income J has returned 1.4% over the last one-year period.

As of August 2017, PSJIX held 456 issues, with 1.18% of its assets invested in FNMA 1.875%.
