2016 Netflix Price Increase to Affect 17M Users

InvestorPlace InvestorPlace - Stock Market News, Stock Advice & Trading Tips

Netflix (NASDAQ: NFLX ) announced a price increase for its services.

About 17 million subscribers of the online streaming site will have to pay a little extra to stream their favorite movies and TV shows as Netflix is raising its monthly price from $7.99 to $9.99.

The company had originally decided to keep its price the same for members who had the service before the company announced its price hike but this will soon change for all users, regardless of when they got Netflix.

About 37% of its users are still on the grandfathered rate. The company hopes to make up for the price difference by adding a large amount of new content over the next couple of years.

NFLX stock is down 0.3% Friday.
