Wednesday Sector Laggards: Utilities, Industrial

In afternoon trading on Wednesday, Utilities stocks are the worst performing sector, showing a 0.3% loss. Within that group, Dominion Energy Inc (Symbol: D) and PPL Corp (Symbol: PPL) are two large stocks that are lagging, showing a loss of 1.0% and 0.8%, respectively. Among utilities ETFs , one ETF following the sector is the Utilities Select Sector SPDR ETF (Symbol: XLU), which is down 0.3% on the day, and up 9.71% year-to-date. Dominion Energy Inc , meanwhile, is up 7.11% year-to-date, and PPL Corp is up 13.57% year-to-date. Combined, D and PPL make up approximately 10.8% of the underlying holdings of XLU.

The next worst performing sector is the Industrial sector, not showing much of a gain. Among large Industrial stocks, Snap-On, Inc. (Symbol: SNA) and C.H. Robinson Worldwide, Inc. (Symbol: CHRW) are the most notable, showing a loss of 2.2% and 1.3%, respectively. One ETF closely tracking Industrial stocks is the Industrial Select Sector SPDR ETF ( XLI ), which is down 0.2% in midday trading, and up 17.87% on a year-to-date basis. Snap-On, Inc., meanwhile, is up 6.54% year-to-date, and C.H. Robinson Worldwide, Inc. is up 5.28% year-to-date. Combined, SNA and CHRW make up approximately 0.9% of the underlying holdings of XLI.
