Wednesday Sector Laggards: Industrial, Materials

Looking at the sectors faring worst as of midday Wednesday, shares of Industrial companies are underperforming other sectors, showing a 0.2% loss. Within the sector, Expeditors International of Washington, Inc. (Symbol: EXPD) and Wabtec Corp (Symbol: WAB) are two large stocks that are lagging, showing a loss of 2.4% and 2.4%, respectively. Among industrial ETFs , one ETF following the sector is the Industrial Select Sector SPDR ETF (Symbol: XLI), which is down 0.1% on the day, and up 20.17% year-to-date. Expeditors International of Washington, Inc., meanwhile, is up 6.18% year-to-date, and Wabtec Corp is up 0.74% year-to-date. Combined, EXPD and WAB make up approximately 1.1% of the underlying holdings of XLI.

The next worst performing sector is the Materials sector, showing a 0.1% loss. Among large Materials stocks, Martin Marietta Materials, Inc. (Symbol: MLM) and Mosaic Co (Symbol: MOS) are the most notable, showing a loss of 1.0% and 0.9%, respectively. One ETF closely tracking Materials stocks is the Materials Select Sector SPDR ETF ( XLB ), which is flat on the day in midday trading, and up 15.28% on a year-to-date basis. Martin Marietta Materials, Inc., meanwhile, is up 32.40% year-to-date, and Mosaic Co , is down 20.59% year-to-date. Combined, MLM and MOS make up approximately 3.4% of the underlying holdings of XLB.
