Wednesday Sector Laggards: Financial, Industrial

In afternoon trading on Wednesday, Financial stocks are the worst performing sector, showing a 0.4% loss. Within that group, American International Group Inc (Symbol: AIG) and Franklin Resources, Inc. (Symbol: BEN) are two of the day's laggards, showing a loss of 2.3% and 2.2%, respectively. Among financial ETFs , one ETF following the sector is the Financial Select Sector SPDR ETF (Symbol: XLF), which is down 1.0% on the day, and up 0.86% year-to-date. American International Group Inc, meanwhile, is down 9.08% year-to-date, and Franklin Resources, Inc., is down 14.75% year-to-date. Combined, AIG and BEN make up approximately 1.8% of the underlying holdings of XLF.

The next worst performing sector is the Industrial sector, showing a 0.4% loss. Among large Industrial stocks, General Electric Co (Symbol: GE) and Fluor Corp. (Symbol: FLR) are the most notable, showing a loss of 7.3% and 3.0%, respectively. One ETF closely tracking Industrial stocks is the Industrial Select Sector SPDR ETF ( XLI ), which is down 0.5% in midday trading, and down 0.26% on a year-to-date basis. General Electric Co, meanwhile, is down 18.06% year-to-date, and Fluor Corp., is down 5.50% year-to-date. Combined, GE and FLR make up approximately 5.9% of the underlying holdings of XLI.
