Tuesday Sector Leaders: Utilities, Energy

In afternoon trading on Tuesday, Utilities stocks are the best performing sector, higher by 0.5%. Within the sector, American Electric Power Company, Inc. (Symbol: AEP) and Entergy Corp (Symbol: ETR) are two of the day's stand-outs, showing a gain of 2.0% and 1.5%, respectively. Among utilities ETFs , one ETF following the sector is the Utilities Select Sector SPDR ETF (Symbol: XLU), which is up 0.7% on the day, and down 3.47% year-to-date. American Electric Power Company, Inc., meanwhile, is down 7.53% year-to-date, and Entergy Corp, is down 0.01% year-to-date. Combined, AEP and ETR make up approximately 7.3% of the underlying holdings of XLU.

The next best performing sector is the Energy sector, up 0.3%. Among large Energy stocks, Cimarex Energy Co (Symbol: XEC) and Concho Resources Inc (Symbol: CXO) are the most notable, showing a gain of 4.1% and 2.3%, respectively. One ETF closely tracking Energy stocks is the Energy Select Sector SPDR ETF ( XLE ), which is down 0.2% in midday trading, and up 4.87% on a year-to-date basis. Cimarex Energy Co, meanwhile, is down 23.10% year-to-date, and Concho Resources Inc, is down 12.41% year-to-date. Combined, XEC and CXO make up approximately 2.0% of the underlying holdings of XLE.
