Tuesday Sector Leaders: Materials, Technology & Communications

The best performing sector as of midday Tuesday is the Materials sector, higher by 0.7%. Within that group, Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co. (Symbol: GT) and Mohawk Industries, Inc. (Symbol: MHK) are two large stocks leading the way, showing a gain of 2.6% and 2.3%, respectively. Among the high volume ETFs , one ETF closely following materials stocks is the Materials Select Sector SPDR ETF (Symbol: XLB), which is up 0.4% on the day, and down 8.81% year-to-date. Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co., meanwhile, is down 28.16% year-to-date, and Mohawk Industries, Inc., is down 54.92% year-to-date.

The next best performing sector is the Technology & Communications sector, up 0.5%. Among large Technology & Communications stocks, NVIDIA Corp (Symbol: NVDA) and Advanced Micro Devices Inc (Symbol: AMD) are the most notable, showing a gain of 5.6% and 3.9%, respectively. One ETF closely tracking Technology & Communications stocks is the Technology Select Sector SPDR ETF ( XLK ), which is up 0.5% in midday trading, and up 7.02% on a year-to-date basis. NVIDIA Corp, meanwhile, is up 3.70% year-to-date, and Advanced Micro Devices Inc is up 92.32% year-to-date. Combined, NVDA and AMD make up approximately 2.9% of the underlying holdings of XLK.
