Technology stocks were slightly higher Wednesday, with shares of tech companies in the S&P 500 posting a 0.1% advance while the Philadelphia semiconductor index was gaining over 0.3%.

Among technology stocks moving on news:

- Immersion ( IMMR ) was fractionally lower during Wednesday trading after the touch-screen technologies company said its board of directors late yesterday adopted a limited-duration shareholder rights plan, expiring Dec. 26, 2018. Board members said they were responding to the recent accumulation of Immersion stock by certain individuals, likely including William Martin at Raging Capital Management. Martin controls almost 4.78 million shares, or about 16.3% of its stock, based on the company's 29.26 million outstanding shares.

In other sector news:

+ Canadian Solar ( CSIQ ) was rising Wednesday after the photovoltaic-panels manufacturer said it has begun commercial operation at its 19.1-megawatt Gunma Aramaki solar power plant in Japan.

- One Horizon Group ( OHGI ) declined Wednesday after the application software firm filed an S-3 registration form authorizing an eventual secondary offering of 2.3 million shares, including 1.3 million shares issuable following the exercise of warrants by selling shareholders, primarily First Choice International Co, which expects to sell nearly two-thirds of its 2.18 million shares.
