Monday Sector Leaders: Materials, Utilities

Looking at the sectors faring best as of midday Monday, shares of Materials companies are outperforming other sectors, up 0.6%. Within that group, Mosaic Co (Symbol: MOS) and Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co. (Symbol: GT) are two large stocks leading the way, showing a gain of 4.4% and 1.7%, respectively. Among the high volume ETFs , one ETF closely following materials stocks is the Materials Select Sector SPDR ETF (Symbol: XLB), which is up 0.5% on the day, and down 0.54% year-to-date. Mosaic Co , meanwhile, is up 25.58% year-to-date, and Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co., is down 24.30% year-to-date. MOS makes up approximately 2.1% of the underlying holdings of XLB.

The next best performing sector is the Utilities sector, higher by 0.1%. Among large Utilities stocks, NiSource Inc. (Symbol: NI) and SCANA Corp (Symbol: SCG) are the most notable, showing a gain of 3.0% and 1.7%, respectively. One ETF closely tracking Utilities stocks is the Utilities Select Sector SPDR ETF ( XLU ), which is flat on the day in midday trading, and up 4.64% on a year-to-date basis. NiSource Inc. , meanwhile, is up 1.73% year-to-date, and SCANA Corp, is down 7.19% year-to-date. Combined, NI and SCG make up approximately 1.8% of the underlying holdings of XLU.
