Monday Sector Laggards: Utilities, Consumer Products

In afternoon trading on Monday, Utilities stocks are the worst performing sector, showing a 0.8% loss. Within that group, Public Service Enterprise Group Inc (Symbol: PEG) and NRG Energy Inc (Symbol: NRG) are two of the day's laggards, showing a loss of 1.6% and 1.5%, respectively. Among utilities ETFs , one ETF following the sector is the Utilities Select Sector SPDR ETF (Symbol: XLU), which is down 0.8% on the day, and up 9.89% year-to-date. Public Service Enterprise Group Inc, meanwhile, is up 13.20% year-to-date, and NRG Energy Inc is up 5.69% year-to-date. Combined, PEG and NRG make up approximately 5.3% of the underlying holdings of XLU.

The next worst performing sector is the Consumer Products sector, higher by 0.3%. Among large Consumer Products stocks, Kellogg Co (Symbol: K) and Hormel Foods Corp. (Symbol: HRL) are the most notable, showing a loss of 3.1% and 2.5%, respectively. One ETF closely tracking Consumer Products stocks is the iShares U.S. Consumer Goods ETF ( IYK ), which is up 0.1% in midday trading, and up 12.84% on a year-to-date basis. Kellogg Co, meanwhile, is down 1.46% year-to-date, and Hormel Foods Corp. is up 2.71% year-to-date. Combined, K and HRL make up approximately 1.2% of the underlying holdings of IYK.
