Monday Sector Laggards: Materials, Energy

In afternoon trading on Monday, Materials stocks are the worst performing sector, showing a 1.2% loss. Within that group, Mosaic Co (Symbol: MOS) and Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co. (Symbol: GT) are two of the day's laggards, showing a loss of 4.0% and 3.7%, respectively. Among the high volume ETFs , one ETF closely following materials stocks is the Materials Select Sector SPDR ETF (Symbol: XLB), which is down 0.8% on the day, and down 3.01% year-to-date. Mosaic Co , meanwhile, is up 18.00% year-to-date, and Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co., is down 26.34% year-to-date. MOS makes up approximately 1.9% of the underlying holdings of XLB.

The next worst performing sector is the Energy sector, showing a 1.0% loss. Among large Energy stocks, Williams Cos Inc (Symbol: WMB) and Halliburton Company (Symbol: HAL) are the most notable, showing a loss of 2.9% and 2.7%, respectively. One ETF closely tracking Energy stocks is the Energy Select Sector SPDR ETF ( XLE ), which is down 1.0% in midday trading, and up 4.54% on a year-to-date basis. Williams Cos Inc , meanwhile, is up 3.43% year-to-date, and Halliburton Company, is down 15.74% year-to-date. Combined, WMB and HAL make up approximately 4.5% of the underlying holdings of XLE.
