Monday Sector Laggards: Consumer Products, Financial

Looking at the sectors faring worst as of midday Monday, shares of Consumer Products companies are underperforming other sectors, showing a 1.5% loss. Within the sector, Newell Brands Inc (Symbol: NWL) and Mattel Inc (Symbol: MAT) are two large stocks that are lagging, showing a loss of 6.2% and 3.6%, respectively. Among consumer products ETFs , one ETF following the sector is the iShares U.S. Consumer Goods ETF (Symbol: IYK), which is down 1.6% on the day, and down 3.72% year-to-date. Newell Brands Inc, meanwhile, is down 31.49% year-to-date, and Mattel Inc is up 3.64% year-to-date. Combined, NWL and MAT make up approximately 0.7% of the underlying holdings of IYK.

The next worst performing sector is the Financial sector, showing a 1.3% loss. Among large Financial stocks, Brighthouse Financial Inc (Symbol: BHF) and Digital Realty Trust Inc (Symbol: DLR) are the most notable, showing a loss of 3.4% and 3.4%, respectively. One ETF closely tracking Financial stocks is the Financial Select Sector SPDR ETF ( XLF ), which is down 1.0% in midday trading, and up 3.18% on a year-to-date basis. Brighthouse Financial Inc, meanwhile, is down 23.47% year-to-date, and Digital Realty Trust Inc is up 5.26% year-to-date. BHF makes up approximately 0.2% of the underlying holdings of XLF.
