US stocks were little changed at midday Monday ahead of this week's Federal Open Market Committee meeting as Boeing ( BA ) helped drag the Dow Jones Industrial Average slightly lower.
The Fed's two-day meeting is scheduled to conclude Wednesday and traders are expecting the committee to leave interest rates unchanged. The Dow was slightly underperforming other major market indexes as Boeing slumped after The Wall Street Journal reported that federal prosecutors and the Department of Transportation are looking into the development of the company's 737 MAX aircraft.
At midday, the Nasdaq and S&P 500 were both up fractionally while the Dow was off about 0.1%.
In global market s, stocks in Asia posted solid advances. Meanwhile, in Europe, the UK's FTSE-100 was up 0.8% while the German DAX slipped 0.3%.
In commodities, crude oil was last up 0.8% to $58.97 per barrel. Natural gas was up 1.7% to $2.84 per 1 million BTU. Gold futures rose 0.1% to $1,304 an ounce, while silver gained 0.2% to $15.35 an ounce.
Among energy ETFs, the United States Oil Fund is up 0.94% to $12.32 while the United States Natural Gas Fund is up 1.6% to $25.04. Among precious-metal funds, the Vectors Gold Miners ETF fell 0.5% to $22.20 while SPDR Gold Shares rose 0.2% to $123.22. The iShares Silver Trust is up 0.4% to $14.39.
