Health Care Sector Update for 10/19/2018: MACK, AVXL, CLVS, JNJ, PFE, ABT, MRK, AMGN

Top Health Care Stocks:

AMGN: -0.11%

Most health care stocks saw declines in recent trading, with a drop of 0.25% for the NYSE Health Care Index. Also, shares of health care companies in the S&P 500 were down by 0.65% as a group while the Nasdaq Biotechnology index was lower by almost 1%.

Moving stocks include:

(-) Merrimack Pharmaceuticals ( MACK ), which was down 30% after the company decided to discontinue the SHERLOC study, a randomized, open-label phase 2 clinical trial evaluating MM-121 in combination with docetaxel in patients with heregulin positive non-small cell lung cancer.

In other sector news:

(+) Anavex Life Sciences ( AVXL ) narrowed its gains to over 6% after an earlier gain of almost 26% as the company received confirmation from the US Food and Drug Administration that its investigational new drug application is now open for ANAVEX 2-73 to treat Rett syndrome, a rare neurodevelopmental disease.

(-) Clovis Oncology ( CLVS ) was lower by more than 7% after being up earlier amid encouraging data from its ongoing phase 2 trial of Rubraca that show a 44% confirmed objective response rate.
