Health care stocks were lower this afternoon, with the NYSE Health Care Index posing a 0.7% retreat while shares of health care companies in the S&P 500 were down 0.9% as a group.

In company news, Repros Therapeutics ( RPRX ) was rising Tuesday afternoon and the specialty drugmaker late yesterday tapped Patrick Fourteau as its new chairman of the board.

Fourteau currently is the president and chief executive at New Haven Pharmaceuticals and also is a board member at Insys Therapeutics ( INSY ). Before starting at New Haven in 2010, he was CEO for two years at the U.S. subsidiary of Shionogi & Co, a period immediately preceded by a stint as chief executive at Scienle Pharma, which was acquired by Shionogi in 2008 for around $1.4 billion.

RPRX shares were up more than 8% at $2.26 this afternoon, earlier climbing to a session high of $2.42 a share.

In other sector news,

(+) CYTX, (+33.9%) Discloses plans to present an update on use of its Cytori CEll Therapy in the French SCLERADEC I and II clinical trials.

(-) AEGR. (-18.8%) Swings to Q1 adjusted net loss of $1.72 per share, reversing $0.06 per share profit last year and exceeding expectations for a $0.27 per share loss. Revenue falls 39.9% to $35.7 mln, also lagging $43 mln consensus call.
