Health care stocks were sharing large gains with the technology sector Wednesday afternoon, including a 1% rise for the NYSE Health Care Index in recent trading. Also, shares of health care companies in the S&P 500 were up more than 0.9% as a group while the Nasdaq Biotechnology index was more than 0.7% higher today.

Among health care stocks moving on news:

+ AEterna Zentaris ( AEZS ) raced over 48% higher at one point during Wednesday trading, reaching a session high of $3.07 a share after disclosing a new licensing agreement for its Macrilen drug candidate with Strongbridge Biopharma plc ( SBBP ), which will carry out development, manufacturing and commercialization of the ghrelin agonist used to evaluate growth hormone deficiency in adults in the United States and Canada. Under terms of the agreement, AEterna Zentaris will receive an upfront $24 million cash payment from Strongbridge and is eligible for a 15% royalty on the first $75 million in net sales, rising to 18% beyond that threshold. Aeterna Zentaris also will receive various one-time payments from Strongbridge after achieving various commercial milestones.

In other sector news:

- Juno Therapeutics ( JUNO ) jumped out to a 54% gain on Wednesday, touching a session high of $70.00 a share, amid reports Celgene ( CELG ) is talking about a potential acquisition with the cancer immunotherapies company.

- Curis ( CRIS ) was lower after the specialty drugmaker Wednesday began phase I testing of its CA-4948 lymphoma drug candidate.
