(RTTNews.com) - Facebook and Messenger Stories now have reached 300 million daily active users, the social networking giant announced on Wednesday.

Facebook also announced plans to roll out ads to Facebook Stories globally, which will operate like Instagram Stories ads. It's also going to roll out Story ads in Messenger in the coming weeks.

Snapchat, which pioneered the Stories format, reported 181 million daily active users in its second quarter earnings report. In June, Instagram Stories hit 400 million users, double that of Snapchat. In May, the company said that Facebook Stories alone had 150 million daily active users.

Facebook also said that it would be testing the ability to add music to Facebook Stories starting next week.

An Ipsos study commissioned by Facebook found 68 percent of people use a "stories"-like feature on at least three apps regularly.
