European ADRs Move Higher in Wednesday Trading

American depositary receipts of European stocks were trading 0.23% higher at 127.86 on the Bank of New York Mellon Europe ADR Index on Wednesday.

In continental Europe, the gainers were led by financial services firm ING Groep ( ING ) and online dating site operator Spark Networks ( LOV ), which rose 6% and 5.5% respectively. They were followed by semiconductor companies STMicroelectronics ( STM ) and ASML ( ASML ), which were up 4.5% and 2.6%.

The decliners in continental Europe were led by hotel booking site Trivago ( TRVG ) and pharmaceutical firm Sanofi (SNY), which dropped 5.1% and 0.8% respectively. They were followed by biotech company Ascendis Pharma (ASND) and bank Banco Bilbao Vizcaya Argentaria (BBVA), which were off 0.6% each.

In the UK and Ireland, the gainers were led by pharmaceutical company GlaxoSmithKline (GSK) and construction materials supplier CRH (CRH), which rose 2.7% and 2% respectively. They were followed by Trinity Biotech (TRIB) and telecommunications operator Vodafone Group (VOD), which were up 1.6% each.

The decliners in the UK and Ireland were led by biopharmaceutical firms Verona Pharma (VRNA), GW Pharmaceuticals (GWPH), and NuCana (NCNA), which fell 3.2%, 1.9%, and 1.3% respectively. They were followed by consumer goods company Unilever plc (UL), which was down 1%.
