Energy shares were higher in pre-market trading Friday. The Baker-Hughes domestic oil-and-gas rig count is released at 1 pm.

Light, sweet crude oil for February delivery was up 0.1% at $64.08 per barrel, while natural gas was down fractionally at $3.19 per million Btu.

In energy ETFs, the United States Oil Fund ( USO ) was down 0.9% at $12.65 while the United States Natural Gas ETF ( UNG ) was down 0.2% at $25.14.
