Consumer stocks were turning broadly higher Monday, with shares of consumer staple companies in the S&P 500 hanging on to a less than 0.1% gain in the afternoon while shares of consumer discretionary firms in the S&P 500 were climbing nearly 0.7%.

Among consumer stocks moving on news:

+ American Woodmark ( AMWD ) surged more than 5% higher on Monday after the home remodeling products company reported adjusted fiscal Q1 net income exceeding Wall Street forecasts. Excluding one-time items, American Woodmark earned $2.04 per share, up from $1.36 per share during the year-ago period and beating the Capital IQ consensus by $0.12 per share. Sales grew 55% year over year to $429 million, roughly matching the $429.13 million analyst mean. The company Monday also reinstated its suspended stock buy-back program, which still has around $36 million available for share repurchases.

In other sector news:

+ United Continental ( UAL ) was almost 1% higher after the carrier late Friday said it was moving its stock listing to the Nasdaq Global Select Market from the New York Stock Exchange, effective with the start of trading on Sept. 7. The airline will continue to trade under its existing UAL ticker symbol.

+ Netflix ( NFLX ) was climbing Monday afternoon, rising almost 3%, after the streaming video company expanded its partnership with Indian telecommunication company Bharti Airtel, providing Airtel and V-Fiber Home broadband subscribers with a three-month Netflix subscription, according to the Economic Times.
