Consumer stocks have turned lower this afternoon, with shares of consumer staples companies in the S&P 500 dropping almost 0.1%, giving back a small mid-day advance, while shares of consumer discretionary firms in the S&P 500 were falling more than 0.3%.

Among consumer stocks moving on news:

(+) WageWorks ( WAGE ) surged nearly 31% after the consumer benefits company announced plans for a March 18 conference call to discuss its financial results for the three months and 12 months ended Dec. 31. The company also to expects to file the "majority" of its delayed quarterly and annual reports the following day, regaining compliance with New York Stock Exchange rules requiring listed companies to file their financial reports on a timely basis.

In other sector news:

(-) Fluent ( FLNT ) declined Thursday, falling 11%. The marketing and customer acquisition company reported non-GAAP net income of $0.08 per share, up from $0.07 per share during the year-ago period and beating the Capital IQ consensus by $0.02 per share. Revenue increased 25% year over year to $70.8 million, also topping the $65.9 million analyst mean.

(-) Dollar General ( DG ) fell 8% after the discount retailer reported adjusted Q4 net income of $1.84 per share, improving on a $1.48 per share profit during the year-ago period but still lagging the Capital IQ consensus by $0.05 per share.

(-) Tailored Brands ( TLRD ) dropped almost 25% after the apparel company reported a drop in fiscal Q4 revenue, falling to $785.76 million during the three months ended Feb. 2 from $859.86 million during the same quarter last year and missing the $801.24 million Capital IQ consensus call.
