Consumer stocks were broadly higher, with shares of consumer staples companies in the S&P 500 climbing just over 0.1% in recent trading while shares of consumer discretionary firms in the S&P 500 were ahead almost than 2.6%.

Among consumer stocks moving on news:

(+) Mattel ( MAT ) had investors singing a happy tune during Monday trading after saying it has signed a global licensing agreement with South Korean boy band BTS and will release a BTS-inspired toy line later this summer drawing inspiration from the seven-member band's "IDOL" music video. Financial details were not disclosed.

In other sector news:

(+) Roku ( ROKU ) surged more than 27% on Monday after the streaming television supplier said the number of its active accounts increased 40% last year compared with 2017. Streaming hours jumped 61% year over year during 2018 to 24 billion hours.

(+) Dollar Tree ( DLTR ) rose over 6% on Monday after activist investors Starboard Value called on the discount retailer to formally explore its strategic options, including a potential sale, and began the process of nominating seven new directors to stand for election to the Dollar Tree board at the company's next annual meeting.

(-) Natural Health Trends ( NHTC ) plunged over 32% at one point Monday to its lowest share price since December 2005 at $13.40 apiece. The personal care and wellness products company rejected reports late last week on China Central TV it was operating illegally in China, arguing those claims were being spread by short-sellers trying to cash in on its falling stock price.
