Tom Bogan, CEO Adaptive Insights joined Nasdaq's Josh Machiz at the Forbes Cloud 100 to discuss his company's work in corporate performance management cloud-based software.
Tell us more about your company -- Adaptive Insights?
"We do cloud-based budgeting and planning software. Finance teams use us to manage their business. They do their budgeting, their financial forecasting, they track their KPIs and metrics, they do sales and marketing planning all using our platform."
What's next for Adaptive Insights?
"We are continuing to build out our operational planning, whether it be sales planning or marketing analytics planning. All aspects where a company is trying to understand the variables of their business. We've just updated our analytics platform to make it easier for clients to look at their performance information."
As a busy CEO, what is your number one tip for staying organized?
"What I do is I make sure at the end of the day that I've been through all my Slack messages, all my emails, and all the outstanding items -- Every day. Some things are important and some not so urgent. Once a week, I then go back through the messages to be certain that I've addressed everything in one way or another.'
What is the most important non SaaS metric that CEOs should pay attention to?
"We pay attention to renewal rates since that is the engine that drives our SaaS businesses. Understanding the details behind that are what we look at such as cohorts and tiers of renewals. So, we understand what's happening with renewal rates across the business. We also look at up-sell metrics as well."
What is a piece of advice to a CEO that aspires to be in the Cloud 100 next year?
"Focus on Team and focus on Culture. Every CEO at the Cloud 100 would likely say that team and culture trump virtually everything else in order to have a successful business."
What is the first app that you check in the morning after you check Slack, email and the weather?
"My favorite app is Adaptive! So, that's the one that I check."
