Global markets largely treaded water last week in anticipation of Federal Reserve Chair Janet Yellen's speech on Friday, which indicated that the case for raising interest rates has strengthened. While stock prices were rather mixed, a number of dividend stocks rewarded shareholders with higher payouts.
Five notable dividend stocks increased their payouts over the last week, including a major cigarette manufacturer, a leading provider of tax and accounting software and a medical products company.
Here are five dividend stocks increasing payouts .
STERIS plc Ordinary Shares (NYSE: STE ) moved its quarterly dividend higher by three cents, increasing it by 12% from 25 cents per share to 28 cents. The provider of infection prevention and surgical products will pay its higher dividend to shareholders of record as of Aug. 30 on Sept. 27. STE shares trade ex-dividend on Aug. 26.
STE Dividend Yield: 1.60%
Intuit Inc. (NASDAQ: INTU ) rewarded shareholders with a 13% raise to its quarterly dividend, increasing it from 30 cents per share to 34 cents. Shareholders of record as of Oct. 10 will receive their higher dividends on Oct. 18 from the provider of business and financial management software solutions. The company's shares will be ex-dividend on Oct. 5.
INTU Dividend Yield: 1.23%
Altria Group Inc (NYSE: MO ) increased its quarterly dividend by 8% to 61 cents per share from 56.5 cents. Shareholders of record as of Sept. 15 will receive dividends from the cigarette manufacturer on Oct. 11. The company's shares go ex-dividend on Sept. 13.
MO Dividend Yield: 3.67%
Martin Marietta Materials, Inc. (NYSE: MLM ) raised its quarterly dividend by 5%, increasing it from 40 cents per share to 42 cents. The aggregates products supplier will pay its higher dividend to shareholders of record as of Sept. 1 on Sept. 30. MLM shares trade ex-dividend on Aug. 30.
MLM Dividend Yield: 0.88%
MGE Energy, Inc. (NASDAQ: MGEE ) sent its quarterly dividend 4% higher, increasing its payment from 29.5 cents per share to 30.75 cents. Shareholders of record as of Sept. 1 will receive dividends from the electric utility company on Sept. 15. MGEE shares will be ex-dividend on Aug. 30.
MGEE Dividend Yield: 2.16%
