Malaysian Ambassador to the United Nations to Ring the NASDAQ Stock Market Opening Bell




The Malaysian Ambassador to the United Nations will visit the NASDAQ MarketSite in New York City's Times Square.

In honor of the occasion, Amb. Hamidon Ali, Permanent Representative of Malaysia to the United Nations, will preside over the NASDAQ Opening Bell.

About Amb. Hamidon Ali:

The Permanent Representative of Malaysia, Hamidon Bin Ali, presented his credentials to United Nations Secretary-General Kofi Annan in July 2005. He was appointed Chair of the UN's Fifth Committee in 2007, and President of the Economic and Social Council in January 2010.

Coming to the United Nations after a distinguished career in foreign affairs, Mr. Hamidon previously served as Malaysia's Ambassador to Indonesia (2003-2005), as High Commissioner of Malaysia to Singapore, and as his country's Permanent Representative to the United Nations in Geneva.

Prior to those posts, Mr. Hamidon held several positions at Malaysia's Ministry for Foreign Affairs, including Undersecretary for Economics, Principal Assistant Secretary for Maritime and the Environment, and Principal Assistant Secretary for the Inspectorate.

He has also worked as Minister Counsellor for Malaysia's Embassy to Japan, First Secretary at the country's Embassy to China, and Second Secretary at its Embassy to France.

Mr. Hamidon holds a Master's degree from Harvard, and has received various awards, including the Darjah Indera Mahkota Pahang (2001), the Kesatria Mangku Negara (1995), and the Commander of the Order of Bernado O'Higgins from the Government of Chile (1994).

Born on 22 January 1950 in Tangkak, Johor, he is married and has two children.
