About the Governor of the Central Bank in Latvia, Mr Ilmars Rimsevics:
Mr. Ilmars Rimsevics has been Governor of the Bank of Latvia since December 2001, after holding key central bank posts, including two consecutive terms as deputy governor, for almost a decade. He is a Riga Technical University graduate and holds an MBA degree from Clarkson University, USA.
He was part of the team managing Latvia's monetary policy when the national currency, the lats, was reintroduced in 1993 and is serving his second six-year governorship since November 2007 as this Baltic country gears up for the eventual adoption of the euro.
