U.S. Senate leaders said on Monday (October 14) that they are nearing a deal to reopen the government and raise the country's debt limit. Democratic Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid said he was optimistic that a deal would soon be reached. "Mr. President, constructive good faith negotiations continue between the Republican leader and me. I'm very optimistic that we will reach an agreement that's reasonable in nature this week ," Reid said from the Senate floor.
