Hundreds of anti-government protesters tried to storm a stadium in Bangkok on Wednesday (December 25), to stop candidates from signing up for the February election. Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra has called a snap election for February 2 to defuse tension. Protest leader Suthep Thaugsuban, a former deputy premier famed for fiery speeches, had called off the blockade on Tuesday (December 24) but promised to ramp up the campaign and chase Yingluck from office.
