Natural gas prices, up sharply in recent weeks due to cold weather demand and lower supplies, surged 12% Wednesday, hitting their highest levels since 2009. Price on contracts for March delivery hit $6.22 per million British Thermal Units in afternoon trading on the New York Mercantile Exchange, highest since January 2010.
