The Company. We are a real estate investment trust, or REIT, formed in 1986 under the laws of the State of Maryland. Our primary business is the ownership and operation of real estate, primarily office buildings located throughout the United States. For a discussion and information regarding our operating segments, see our financial statements beginning on page F-1. As of December 31, 2012, our consolidated portfolio included 440 properties with 71.9 million square feet (excluding properties classified as held for sale) for a total investment of $7.8 billion at cost and a depreciated book value of $6.8 billion.
