Peabody Energy Corporation is the world’s largest private-sector coal company. We own interests in 28 active coal mining operations located in the United States (U.S.) and Australia. We have a majority interest in 27 of those coal operations and a 50% equity interest in the Middlemount Mine in Australia. In addition to our mining operations, we market and broker coal from our operations and other coal producers, both as principal and agent, and trade coal and freight-related contracts through trading and business offices in China, Australia, the United Kingdom, Germany, Singapore, India, Indonesia and the U.S. History and Development We were incorporated in Delaware in 1998 and became a public company in 2001. Our history in the coal mining business dates back to 1883.
