About Guilford Pharmaceuticals Inc. [GLFD]

Guilford Pharmaceuticals Inc. is a fully integrated pharmaceutical company engaged in the research, development and commercialization of products that target the hospital and neurology markets. Presently, Guilford markets one commercial product, GLIADEL(R) Wafer, for the treatment of brain cancer, and has a product pipeline, which includes a novel anesthetic, AQUAVAN(R) Injection, and drugs for treating Parkinson's disease and post-prostatectomy erectile dysfunction.

The Company now has two compounds in Phase II clinical testing -- AQUAVAN(TM), a novel prodrug of the world's best selling anesthetic agent, propofol, and GPI 1485, the most advanced product in its class to treat Parkinson's disease. AQUAVAN represents one of Guilford's most closely watched programs, offering a number of potential advantages over currently approved products. Interim results of the first part of Phase II testing in patients undergoing conscious sedation during colonoscopy are expected later this year. GPI 1485 is a novel approach to neuroprotection and was recently selected for inclusion in a comprehensive clinical investigation of new therapies for Parkinson's disease being conducted by the National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke of the NIH.
