About "Where the Music Lives":
Andrew J. Nemr and CPD PLUS (www.andrewnemr.com), the New York-based tap dance company, returns this winter for their 2008 New York premiere season. Andrew Nemr and CPD PLUS (Cats Paying Dues) will debut "Where the Music Lives" at The Julia Miles Theater (424 W. 55th Street) for 6 performances only from January 9 - 13, 2008.
"Where the Music Lives" is a reinvention of a classic tap dance program. A 12-piece band including five tap dancers present music of all genres from classic standards and bebop, to funk and fusion, while paying tribute to some of music's greats from Duke Ellington to the recently departed Joe Zawinul. Mentored by Gregory Hines, Nemr draws from the lineage of tap dancers John Bubbles, Jimmy Slyde, and Savion Glover as the music becomes the dance and the dance becomes the music.
Passionate about preserving and advancing the art of tap dance, Andrew J. Nemr co-founded The Tap Legacy Foundation in 2002 with Gregory Hines. The foundation's programming is developed to ensure that the art form continues to thrive in the years to come while championing the cultural contribution tap dancers have made over the years.
"Our goal is to push the envelope in the dance world", said Andrew J. Nemr. "From experimenting with electric tap shoes, to bringing the power of theatrical story telling to a tap program, we want to present the first band with a company of tap dancers as the lead instrument."
CPD Plus dancers include: Orlando Hernandez, Gemini Quintos, Claudia Rahardjanoto, and Rebecca Snow.
