CFAW is an independent not-for-profit institution dedicated to promote women's rights and opportunities worldwide through research-based advocacy and national information campaigns. Founded in 1995 by Faye Wattleton, CFAW conducts groundbreaking national opinion surveys to identify the issues that are important to women and to understand how women's daily experiences affect their larger worldview and place in society. Through mass media and Internet technologies, CFAW disseminates research findings to educate and inform opinion leaders, policy-makers, academic institutions and the general public. CFAW will honor Emmy Award-winning actress Cicely Tyson; journalism legend Helen Thomas; Motown pioneer and TV producer Suzanne de Passe; and women's rights architect Eleanor Smeal, for their contributions to advance women's rights and opportunities. CFAW President Faye Wattleton and Sheri Lansing, former CEO of Paramount Pictures and chair of the Sheri Lansing Foundation, will present the awards during a luncheon scheduled from 12 to 2 PM on Oct. 18 at the Mandarin Oriental Hotel in New York .
