Dick Robinson, Chairman, President and CEO of Scholastic Corporation, presides over the opening bell.

Scholastic, the global children's publishing, education and media company, and U.S publisher of Harry Potter, announced an initial print run of 12 million copies of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, which breaks the record held by the sixth book, Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, which had a 10.8 million first printing in 2005 and sold 6.9 million copies in the first 24 hours.

On Friday night, retailers and libraries across the country will be holding midnight parties to celebrate the 12:01 a.m. July 21st release date, and Scholastic is celebrating by transforming Mercer Street (between Prince and Spring) into "Harry Potter Place," a magical, interactive experience for kids and adults open to the public on July 20th from 5:00 p.m. - 11:00 p.m.
