Alexander Jutkowitz, Board Member of Global Kids, Inc., and President of Hemispheric Partners and Group SJR presides over the opening bell.
Founded in 1989, Global Kids' (GK) mission is to transform urban youth into successful students and global and community leaders by engaging them in socially dynamic, content-rich learning experiences. Through leadership development and academic enrichment programs, primarily in New York City, Global Kids uses interactive and experiential methods to educate youth about critical international and public policy issues and provides them with opportunities for civic and global engagement.
Through its professional development program, GK provides teachers and educators with strategies for integrating a youth development approach and international issues into their classrooms.
Since it was incorporated as a nonprofit organization, Global Kids has served over 90,000 youth in New York City and beyond through leadership development, academic enrichment, professional development and online programming. Within a New York City school system that graduates just over half of the students that enter it, over 90% of the high school seniors in Global Kids' leadership programs graduate from high school, with the vast majority attending college. Global Kids conducts a range of programs with the Council on Foreign Relations; serves as the lead partner for one of New York City's leading small high schools, the High School for Global Citizenship in Brooklyn; and recently received prestigious grants from Microsoft and the John D. and Catherine T.
MacArthur Foundation.
