California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger presides over the opening bell.
Governor Schwarzenegger's top priority is fulfilling his mandate from Californians to bring jobs back to the state and restore its prosperity. Since he has taken office, California has created more than 635,000 jobs and the unemployment rate has fallen from 6.8 to 4.9 percent. The Governor cut taxes by $4 billion and averted bankruptcy with measures that refinanced old debt and required the state to live within its means. Schwarzenegger also reformed the state's workers'
compensation system that had the highest costs in the nation, saving billions of dollars that have been reinvested into the people and economy of California and creating a positive business environment for his state.
Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger is taking his green initiatives to the other side of the country. The governor is to announce an executive order Monday in New York that joins California's landmark global warming law with the Northeast's program to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
