Congresswoman Carolyn B. Maloney (D-NY), presides over the opening bell.

New York Congresswoman Carolyn B. Maloney is a national leader with extensive accomplishments on homeland security, financial services, the economy and women's issues. She also has been a force representing the interests of the City of New York in Congress from the time she entered, in 1993.
Maloney is the Senior House Democrat on the Joint Economic Committee, which examines and tackles the nation's most pressing economic issues. On the Financial Services Committee, Maloney is the Ranking Member of Subcommittee on Domestic and International Monetary Policy, Trade and Technology. She also sits on the Government Reform Committee.
Maloney's New York City district includes most of the East Side of Manhattan, Roosevelt Island, Astoria and Long Island City, Queens. After serving for ten years on the New York City Council, Maloney defeated a 14-year incumbent in her first race for Congress in 1992. She was re-elected in 2004 with 81% of the vote and has never lost an election. She and her husband, Clifton Maloney, have two daughters, Christina and Virginia.
