The Korea Exchange (The KRX) was incepted in May 1956, having made a remarkable growth and emerged as a capital market that attracts the investors from all over the world. In Jan. 2005, the KRX was incorporated as a sole exchange in Korea via the consolidation of the securities market, the derivatives market and the market for venture companies. Now, the KRX envisions becoming a premier capital market in Northeast Asia by taking advantage of the synergies and competencies gained through the consolidation. As of June 27, 2006, 1,648 companies were listed on the KRX and the market capitalization reaches to US $651 bil. Also, bonds, futures and options, ETFs, warrants, and so forth are actively traded on the KRX. Especially, KOSPI 200 (Korea Stock Price Index 200) futures and options markets boast of their volume traded, ranking in the top three of the global markets.
